God's faithfulness was clearly placed on display this Sunday at Renewal Church. As many of you know we have been meeting with a developing core group for the last twelve weeks praying about establishing a church in Greenville, SC. Our desire is that Renewal Church would launch on February 7, 2010. To that end, we have been praying for three specific things over the last several weeks that we feel were necessary in order to advance the mission that we fill God has called us to: 1. people to join with us in the mission, 2. another pastor/elder to lead the mission of Renewal, and 3. a place for us to gather as a church to study the Scriptures, grow in unity, and point to the glory of God. Sunday we were able to share with our core team how God had answer each of those prayers.
1. People - In our first Sunday inviting people to join Renewal Church as members, Renewal saw 41 adults and college students unite in membership with Renewal Church pledging to join in the mission of God in this city. Between now and our launch Sunday, we are trusting that God would continue to do His work of building this core team so that we can see many come to faith in Jesus and walk obediently with Him.
2. Pastor - Toby Dix, the current youth pastor at Rocky Creek Baptist Church, will be leaving Rocky Creek to join us at Renewal by the first of the year. Toby is a native of the Greenville area and brings great wisdom, insight, and passion to his new job. He is married to Julieann and they have to children, Madison and Tanner. Toby will assume responsibilities as an elder and be specifically responsible for administration and mission at Renewal. We receive Toby has a gift of God to Renewal for the equipping and building up of the Body of Christ at this time and place. Drop Toby a note at toby@renewalupstate.com to express your excitement about his move and encourage him as he enters a stage of fundraising for this new job.
3. Place - Over the past two weeks conversations have developed about a significant meeting space in the Haywood Rd. area of Greenville. All of the steps are in place to solidify this move beginning the first week of January. Early next week we should be able to announce this location publicly and begin to make the transition to a new location. The size, layout, and price of this location is a true gift of God to us and will allow us to gather as a church for an extended period of time.
As you can see, God is faithful. We are seeing evidence of His grace abounding in the work we are doing in Greenville. Please continue to pray for each of us as we seek to lead with wisdom, humility, and faithfulness. Continue to pray for the work of the Lord to go forth through the efforts of Renewal Church. To each of you who have spent time praying for us over the last few months, we express our sincere gratitude.
God is faithful. May we be found faithful with that which He has entrusted to us.
